Mobil to partner Bonny on education

Mobile Producing Nigeria (MPN) has promised to partner with Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC) to provide infrastructure for education to thrive in Bonny Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State.
The General Manager, Public and Government Affairs of MPN, Mrs Gloria Essien-Danner, said this during the third edition of the Senior Secondary Schools Quiz Competition in Bonny, organised by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/MPN Joint Venture in collaboration with BKDC.
Essien-Danner explained that the exercise was part of the company's community relations programmes "to uplift the falling standards of education, rekindle interest and consciousness in education and encourage reading habits among pupils."
The Chairman of  the occasion, Dr Sodienye Jackmay, said the quiz competition was to restore reading habit in pupils. Jackmay advised pupils to desist from spending precious time on things that would not make any meaningful impact on their future.
The Chairman of Bonny LGA, Edward Pepple, who was represented by Mr Samuel John, commended NNPC/MPN and the BKDC for their efforts which culminated to the quiz competition that has 'undoubtedly improved pupils' performances.'
The Chairman of Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board, Mr Allwell Nyeso, who was represented by a member of the board in charge of Science and Technology, Mr Tonye Longjohn, decried the falling standards of education, which he said has become worrisome to government.
Nyeso, who commended the sponsors and facilitators of the event, also expressed hope that it would stimulate spirit of competition amongst participants, and impacting positively on their overall academic activities.
Earlier in his address, Dr Jude Benstowe, who represented Recreasport, the facilitator of the competition, said the organisation has procured more current textbooks for all participating schools to improve and update their libraries, high speed lap-top computers and other prizes which would be given to the winners at the event for their personal use.
At the end of the competition, which featured four public and four private schools in the LGA, Spring Foundation College came tops to retain the first position, which it won in the last edition. It scored 28 points to defeat Community Secondary School which got 27 points. Bonny National Grammar School also secured 28 points to beat Kings and Queens High School which had 19 points.
