Bowen varsity student wins script-writing contest

A student of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Mr. Damilola Kulajolu,
has won a short film script-writing competition among undergraduates
in Nigeria.
A second year student of Mass Communication, Damilola's winning script
wastitled, 'A Life' — a 15-minute film about a gifted artist whose
negative attitude to life almost drove him to suicide.
It was directed by a lecturer in the university, Mr. Wole Oguntokun,
with a three-member cast.
The star prize of the competition was an all-expenses-paid trip to
Beirut, Lebanon, for the sixth Notre-Dame UniversityStudent Film
Festival.
The festival attracted student participants from other countries,
including theCzech Republic and the United States; as well as guest
actors, directors and producers from Australia, France, Egypt, Nigeria
and United States of America.
Students from other universities in Lebanon also participated.
Damilola, who was in Lebanonbetween November 19 and 25 for the
festival, described the experience asvery exciting and fulfilling.
He said, "The film festival started at 3:00p.m. each day and included
seminars and workshops. The films were written, directed and acted by
undergraduates from universities in Lebanon. The films were in
different categories — fiction films, documentaries, animation films
and special screenings under which my film was shown."
According to him, the festivalwas instructive, as it afforded him the
opportunity to learn more about the film industry.
"With this exposure, I am now in a position to contribute to improving
film script-writing, directing and production in Nigeria, even as an
undergraduate," he said.
Damilola said participants were also privileged to experience the
sights and sounds of Lebanon, as participants were taken to tourist
sites in the country.
"It was a wonderful and educative experience that I will never forget.
It was, indeed, a great privilege andI am grateful to God for
favouring me among other undergraduates who enteredfor the
competition. I am also grateful to Cool FM Radio andits owner, Mr.
Amin Ibrahim Moussalli, who sponsored the trip," he said.
